Winnie Byanyima has urged Yoweri Museveni to intervene after the arrest and alleged mistreatment of Erias Lukwago.
Byanyima condemned Lukwago's reported abduction, torture, and public humiliation, saying they undermine the rule of law. She accused Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the president's son and army commander, of acting above the law and questioned whether courts and legal processes can function fairly under such circumstances.
Lukwago, a lawyer for opposition leader Kizza Besigye, was reportedly taken from his home by security operatives on June 15. Kainerugaba later claimed responsibility for the operation and shared posts about Lukwago on social media.
Lukwago had reportedly been preparing to serve court summons on Kainerugaba in a case related to alleged threats against Besigye. By the time of reporting, authorities had not announced any charges against Lukwago or revealed his whereabouts.
