Lukwago was reportedly arrested during an early-morning raid by the Special Forces Command at his Wakaliga residence on June 15. Security officers allegedly scaled the perimeter wall after meeting resistance at the main gate and took him into custody.
After the arrest, Muhoozi publicly confirmed Lukwago's detention and posted photos appearing to show him in custody. He also made controversial remarks about intending to cause Lukwago “hurt and pain,” drawing widespread criticism.
The incident sparked condemnation from opposition leaders, human rights advocates, and the Uganda Law Society, who questioned the legality of the arrest and detention and called for respect for constitutional and legal procedures.
Opposition leaders condemned the detention of , describing it as an unlawful abduction rather than a legal arrest. They demanded his immediate release and called on authorities to uphold constitutional rights and due process.
The incident intensified concerns about the role of security agencies in politically sensitive cases and renewed calls for greater transparency in security operations.
Although later announced Lukwago's release, key questions remain unanswered. Authorities have not publicly disclosed any formal charges against Lukwago or provided a detailed explanation for the raid and detention, leaving legal and human rights concerns unresolved.
